Hobart (D) Welcome to Hobart. You will be met after immigration and transfer to your central city Hotel where you are reserved for four nights. This evening join your fellow travel companions for welcome drinks and canapes. An opportunity to relax and meet your fellow travel companions, followed by a 2-course dinner at Stockman’s Restaurant. Accommodation: The Old Woolstore Apartment Hotel Built in the 1800’s, the Old Woolstore Apartment was awarded “Best redeveloped industrial building” in 1997 with many of the original historic features retained. Its location near to Franklin Wharf, Constitution Dock, and the Museum of Old and New Art, makes this hotel a great choice for your Hobart visit.

04 Nov Hobart – Richmond – Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary – Wicket Cheese (B, T, D) Today is a day for all the senses. Begin by travelling to Richmond, steeped in history. Nestled in the heart of the Coal River Valley, Richmond was established as an important military staging post and convict station linking Hobart with Port Arthur. The village is famous for its elegant Georgian architecture, with beautiful heritage buildings dating back as early as the 1820's, it now features galleries, antiques, tea shops, arts and crafts, and museums. Continue to Bonorong, a Sanctuary for wildlife run by a passionate team committed to preservation of wildlife. You’ll come face to face with animals that became extinct long ago in some parts of Australia and discover more about the sanctuary’s work to preserve Australian wildlife. Historic Richmond Visit Bonorong Wildlife Santuary Sample Wicked Cheese Continue to award winning Wicked Cheese, a boutique cheese maker. The company has emerged in a few short years, to gain recognition for its high quality, hand made cheeses. Sampling cheese platters are included with your visit. Our day concludes with a visit to the Mona Museum of Old and New Art. David Walsh built the Museum located on the banks of the Derwent, with a vision to house Australia’s largest private collection of art. Later return to your hotel, for a relaxed included dinner this evening.

 

05 Nov Hobart – Salamanca Markets (B, D) This morning walk to the nearby Salamanca Markets, located in handsome 19th-century sandstone warehouses. Starting modestly in 1972 the market has become a showcase of Tasmanian creativity and now spans more than 220 stalls. Featuring produce from pottery to fine arts; to food trucks, books to buskers, there will be ample time to explore with a break for coffee, or sample of some the tempting cuisine on offer. Later this afternoon relax, and explore Hobart at your own pace, or join Colleen on an optional walking tour to the Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens. This evening dinner a special dinner at the Lounge by Frogmore Creek. Located on the Hobart waterfront, the restaurant serves a Tasmanian focused menu, with seasonal specialities with and local produce. The covered waterside deck is the perfect spot to watch boats on the harbour. Indoors a local stone mason has crafted the fireplace with shared stories as the inspiration.

06 Nov Hobart – Port Arthur Historic site – Lavender Gardens (B, D) This morning depart to historic Port Arthur. Your entry includes a 40-minute guided introductory tour. After a choice of access to over 30 historic buildings including restored houses, heritage gardens and walking trails. Later this morning embark on a 25-minute harbour cruise. Continue to Port Arthur Lavender Farm, nestled on 18 acres of lavender gardens and rainforest. Stroll around the lavender trail or take in ocean views with your choice of Tasmanian inspired produce. Return to your hotel. The remainder of the afternoon is at leisure, perhaps visit the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery, take a stroll around Hobart’s shop or along the nearby waterfront. This evening join the Hobart Historic cruise, departing at 6pm. A three-course dinner is served during the 2-hour cruise with a complimentary drink.

07 Nov Hobart – Central Highlands – Queenstown – Strahan (B, D) This morning farewell Hobart. Travel to the Central Highlands. Visit The Wall and see where sculptor Greg Duncan is carving the history of Tasmania, in a series of 100 panels, with each panel one metre high and three metres high. Continue to the historic mining town of Queenstown, once the world’s richest mining town. Later travel to Strahan Village and check in to the Gateway to Gordon Hotel for two nights. The hotel is in 5 acres of native gardens and overlooks Strahan Village and its historical harbour. A 2-course dinner is included this evening at View 42 Strahan Restaurant overlooking Macquarie Harbour.

08 Nov Strahan - Gordon River Cruise (B, L) This morning embark on the Gordon River Heritage Cruise and discover the history of Macquarie Harbour and its settlement. Experience the UNESCO Southwest Wilderness Heritage Rainforest. Step ashore Sarah Island and see some of Australia’s oldest convict ruins. Lunch is included on board. Dinner this evening is own arrangements. For those who wish to dine together, Colleen will arrange a meet up time in the lobby.

09 Nov Strahan - Cradle Mountain – Sheffield – Devonport (B, D) This morning depart Strahan and travel towards Cradle Mountain. A part of St Clair National Park and listed as an Australian World Heritage Wilderness area, at 1,545 metres above sea level, there will be time to appreciate the spectacular views. A causal lunch is available at the Tavern bar and bistro. (Own cost) After lunch drive to Sheffield, which has earnt the reputation as Tasmania's Outdoor Art Gallery. Murals adorn the buildings on the main streets in town and have spread into the neighbouring areas, with over 200 now available to view, reflecting the history of the area. First regenerated in the 1980’s there will be time to wander and appreciate this colourful outdoor artwork. Continue to the Devonport and check in at the centrally located Gateway Hotel for two nights. Dinner is included this evening at your hotel. Discover the Sheffield Murals

10 Nov Northern Tasmania - Ghost Rock Vineyard – Anvers Chocolates (B, T) Travel through the rolling patch work hills in Northern Tasmania, to Ghost Rock Vineyard. With striking views over its vineyards and Bass Strait, local Tasmanian wines are produced. Experience a local wine tasting. Stay for lunch (own cost). This afternoon continue to Latrobe to visit the famous House of Anvers Chocolate. A tasting of samples is included. Later consider Truffles, Fudge D’Anvers or other sweet delights for purchase. Return to Devonport. This evening dinner own arrangements. Colleen will arrange a time to meet in the lobby for those who wish to dine together.

11 Nov Devonport - Launceston (B, L, T) This morning depart at 9.30 am and travel from Devonport to Launceston. On arrival visit the nearby Cataract Gorge Reserve, here there are walking trails, peacocks, wildlife, and beautiful gardens. Take time for a coffee in this scenic location. Continue to the Josef Chromy Vineyard and learn about their wines. A 2-course lunch is included. Later check into the centrally located Sebel Hotel. Depart the hotel approximately 5.50pm for a short walk to the Mudbar Restaurant overlooking the Marina. Many of the restaurant products are sourced from their own farm in Whitehills. Sample shared tasting platters are included as your entrée. Main course or desert is your choice, at own cost.

12 Nov Launceston Morning optional: Local cooking class (B, D) Optional visit: This morning an optional visit to the local Launceston Harvest Market, open from 8.30am until 12.30pm, located within a 5-minute walk of the Sebel Hotel, or take a stroll to discover more of Launceston. This afternoon visit the Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery, displaying a collection of Aboriginal art and native wildlife exhibits QVMAG is Australia’s largest regional Museum. Entrance fee included. Later this afternoon visit award winning, boutique Turner Stillhouse Gin Distillery. With a focus on local sourcing, their award winning Three Cuts gin is distilled from a local grape based, and a unique blend of Tasmanian botanicals. Tasting and tapas are included. Return to your hotel to relax, before joining your Travel Companions to reflect on your amazing Tasmanian journey, as you join a farewell dinner at the Bluestone Restaurant in the Sebel Hotel.

13 Nov Launceston – End of tour Your tour concludes today. The coach will depart once during the morning to the airport. Additional transfers maybe required, at own cost.
